Family Portrait Session at Peninsula Park
I wanted to share another cute family portrait session from this summer. This session took place at one of my all-time favorite parks in Portland, Peninsula Park. This adorable family currently lives in Texas but has ties to the Pacific Northwest and wanted the photos to reflect the lushness of the area. Thank you Jeremy, Lindsay, Jack, and Hazel for the fun summer morning and all of beautiful smiles you brought with you:) Enjoy!
Backyard Family Portrait Session
Summer is the best time for a sweet family portrait session. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Jay, Rachele, and their children, Elise and Nolan, in their very own backyard. I had so much fun hanging out with this adorable family, enjoying the summer evening, and documenting them spending quality-time together. I love my job! Click here to see more photos…
Elizabeth and Jim’s Engagement Session at George Rogers Park
Engagement photos are wonderful for so many reasons. First of all, your engagement is an exciting and fleeting time in your relationship and it’s nice to have beautiful photographs to remember this unique time. Additionally, your engagement photo session is a fantastic way to get to know your photographer before your wedding day, and vice versa. After Elizabeth and Jim’s engagement session, I truly felt like Lincoln and I had a chance to find out a little more about Elizabeth and Jim as a couple. For instance, we found out that, just a few days after their session at George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, Elizabeth and Jim were planning to participate in the 2010 Foot Traffic Flat Marathon on the 4th of July. That’s right, folks. In addition to planning their wedding, Elizabeth and Jim were also training to run 26.2 miles together. Quite impressive! However, after spending a lovely summer evening with this incredible couple, I’m certain that they could (and will) do anything that they put their mind to.
Elizabeth and Jim, we had a great time getting to know you during your engagement session and we’re looking forward to your wedding in August!
Angel and Kyle’s Engagement Session on Sauvie Island
Think about your sweetheart. The person whose hand you love to hold.
When was the last time you spent time with them in a park, doing absolutely nothing except for enjoying each other’s company? How about the last time you walked through an orchard, ran through a field, held hands, danced in the street, or kissed in a pine grove ? If it’s been a while since you spent some having-fun-doing-nothing quality time with your beloved, let Angel and Kyle’s engagement session inspire you to fall in love all over again.
Emilie and Rob’s Engagement Session – A Love Story in SE PDX
Meet Emilie and Rob. They are an adorable couple who are madly in love with one another and, on June 24th 2010, they will be married. For their engagement session, Emilie and Rob chose to do something that I think is wonderfully creative and fun: a photo story of their courtship. Emilie and Rob’s love story takes place almost entirely in SE Portland, Oregon. In fact, their first date, their first kiss, their first apartment, even the spot where they were engaged are all within just a few blocks of one another! We spent a sunny afternoon, hanging out in SE Portland, taking photos and chatting, right where they fell in love. I could tell you all about it, but you should really check out the photos:) Congratulations Emilie and Rob! Lincoln and I enjoyed getting to know you two and we’re looking forward to photographing your wedding.
Cicely, Jesse, and Tyus in Downtown Charlottesville, VA
Cicely is one of my very best friends in the whole world. She and I met way back in sixth grade at Walker Upper Elementary School and we have been close friends ever since. We’ve experienced so much together in the 18 years that we’ve known each other and I feel fortunate to have someone as kind and magnanimous as Cicely in my life. Even though we live on opposite ends of the country, whenever I see Cicely it’s like we’ve never been apart. She is a true friend.
One of the greatest joys in life is to witness happiness in others, especially in the people that you love. About two and a half years ago, Cicely gave birth to her son, Tyus. Ty is the sweetest, most spirited little boy I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet and Cicely is a wonderful mother who has an incredible capacity to give and receive love. Now, Cicely has met an amazing man, Jesse, and they are going to be married in November of this year! Jesse, Cicely and Tyus make such a cute family and you can tell how much they care about and respect one another. While Lincoln and I were back East visiting our hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia, we spent a beautiful evening with Cicely, Jesse, and Tyus taking both engagement and family portraits. It was so much fun and Lincoln and I were honored to have the opportunity to capture this exciting time in their lives. Congratulations you guys! We love you very much and we’re looking forward to seeing you in November.
Double R Design
Hello All! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything but I have a good excuse. Lincoln and I took a wonderful and much-needed vacation back East to visit family, friends, and to relax before wedding season. We have since returned from our East Coast adventures, feeling refreshed and looking forward to a busy summer!
This next session holds a special place in my heart. My dear friend, Gretchen, approached me in March and asked if I would photograph her and her mother during her mother’s visit in April. Gretchen’s mother, Rhonda, has been designing clothes for herself and Gretchen for several years. Rhonda makes a variety of clothing including one-of-a-kind skirts, scarves, mittens and half mittens, and accessories. Gretchen, a talented writer and editor, and a savvy entrepreneur, recognized the uniqueness of her mother’s designs and suggested that introduce them to the Portland fashion scene. Not only are Rhonda’s designs adorable, fun, and functional, they also are sustainable, made from used fabric and deconstructed clothing that she finds at second-hand stores. Beautiful, handmade clothing that is also sustainable? Yes, please!
I spent a lovely afternoon with Gretchen and her mother, photographing Rhonda’s designs in action. We also wanted to capture the friendship that Gretchen and her mother have. These beautiful women are like two peas in a pod and it meant a lot to me that Gretchen asked me to document the beginning of their business partnership. Gretchen and Rhonda, I wish you the best in this exciting endeavor! xoxo
Leah and John’s Engagement Session in Roseburg, Oregon
Just a couple of weeks ago, I drove down to Roseburg, Oregon to photograph Leah and John’s engagement portraits. It’s not often that I have the opportunity to travel for engagement portrait sessions but, when I do, I always find it inspiring. What makes this next set of photographs really special, however, is that the locations that Leah and John chose for their session have personal meaning to them as a couple. We spent some time at their beautiful wedding venue, Melrose Vineyards. We then went to the farm where they will live once they’re married. To wrap the shoot up, we headed to downtown Roseburg, the city where Leah and John both grew up. I loved talking with Leah and John during their session, hearing the story of how they met, and their plans for the future. They are such a fantastic couple and it really couldn’t have been a more enjoyable afternoon. Leah and John, Lincoln and I are looking forward to photographing your wedding weekend in August!
Love Letters – Meet Encanto Press
I love letterpress printing. In fact, I love everything that has to do with handmade paper products. There have been many hours that I’ve spent perusing the aisles of local paper stores, adoring the notebooks, handmade paper, envelopes and (my personal favorite), handmade letterpress cards. What is it about relief printing that makes me swoon? I enjoy the beautiful grain of the paper, the richness of the ink, and the texture of the print’s surface. It always feels special to give or receive a letterpress card; it’s a gift in itself.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to spend a lovely afternoon with Angie Clark, owner of Encanto Press. Encanto Press is a letterpress printing and design studio in Portland, Oregon. Angie opened up her shop in 2000 and has been making beautiful, one-of-a-kind letterpress printed wedding invitations, business cards, birth announcements and greeting cards ever since. About a year ago, Angie designed and printed a wedding invitation for a friend of mine and I’ve been a fan of her work ever since. The best part: Angie is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Seriously, she is incredibly warm and friendly. I adore her and I know you will too! Please take the time to meet Angie and see her studio and all of the hard work and skill that goes into each of her letterpress pieces.
Rachel and Jason’s Engagement Photo Session in SE Portland
There are many reasons why I love Spring. To name a few, the days grow longer, the trees and flowers start to bud, and the sun comes back to the Great Pacific Northwest. Many of our clients choose to do their engagement photo sessions in the springtime, which is another reason that I love this lovely time of year: it signifies the beginning of our wedding season!
I think I’ve mentioned this before, but we really enjoy engagement photo sessions. Engagement portraits are not only relaxed and playful, they are also a great way for us to get to know our clients before their big day. On Sunday, March 21st, Lincoln and I photographed Rachel and Jason in SE Industrial Portland. All of the elements that make up a fantastic photo shoot fell into place. The rain held off, the sun came out and Rachel and Jason we’re happy to wander around SE Portland with us looking fabulous in their Sunday best. For the record, these two are U of O alumni and Ducks fans. I was so excited to happen upon the yellow building as well as the matching Volkswagen bus! It was an awesome first engagement for 2010. Rachel and Jason, thank you for the fun afternoon. We’re looking forward to photographing your wedding in October!
Professional Portraits with Beth
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Beth, asking if I would take a few portraits of her that she could use in her professional field. Of course, I said yes! I love having the opportunity to do any type of portraiture. Even in business portraits, I strive to create relaxed, approachable images that could be used for both your professional and personal life.
Beth and I agreed to do the shoot at my office building, the Olympic Mills Commerce Center. The OMCC is full of great backdrops of tons of natural light; a photographer’s dream. The talented and oh-so-lovely stylist, Jennifer Rand of Face Body Beauty, joined us to do Beth’s hair and makeup, which looked gorgeous and gave a polished look to the Beth’s natural beauty. I really love my job and all of the fantastic people that I have the chance to work with along the way. Many thanks to Beth and Jennifer for a truly enjoyable Saturday afternoon!
Janet and Charles’ Engagement Session at Union Station and Around
Looking back through this next set of engagement photographs makes me feel happy, warm and cozy; a perfect way to feel on such chilly day as today! Lincoln and I did Janet and Charles’ engagement session the day after Thanksgiving and had yet another beautiful, sunny, crisp, autumn day to frolic around Portland. This adorable couple loves to travel and so we decided to start their session at the train station in downtown Portland, Oregon. Afterward, we walked over to the North Park blocks and took advantage of the gorgeous fall foliage. Janet and Charles are so incredibly sweet together and were really good at making one another laugh, smile, giggle; it was wonderful way to wrap up a lovely November day. Janet and Charles, we had a great time with you two and we’re looking forward to photographing your wedding!

Feel Good Friday – Family Portrait Session at Raleigh Park
I wanted to end the week on a great note by sharing this family portrait session with you. The photo of the puppies was too cute not to use as the header. Many thanks to the Sawyers and the Morrisons for asking me to be their family photographer. My sincere congratulations to all of you on all of the precious new additions to your families:)
Happy Friday! I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Erin and Eric’s Engagement Session in Peninsula Park
I really love this next set of engagement photos with Erin and Eric! The couple, the weather, and the setting were all so lovely and reminded me of how much fun Fall portrait sessions can be.
For anyone in Portland who has never been to Peninsula Park, you must go! It is a hidden gem in the heart of North Portland and it was the setting for Erin and Eric’s engagement photo session. Erin and Eric are getting married on January 2nd 2010. They met while on a student exchange in Japan and they currently reside in Seattle. However, they lived in Portland for a couple of years and both love the Rose City (and one another) very much and they wanted to reflect this in their photos. I couldn’t think of a more perfect place to capture Portland than in the city’s first formally designed neighborhood park. We had a grand time playing in the leaves, hanging out on the swings, and walking around enjoying the beautiful day. Erin and Eric, thank you for the fun afternoon! We look forward to January 2nd.

Barrie and Doug’s Engagement Session in the Pearl
I love love love this engagement session with Barrie and Doug! Last Tuesday, I met this adorable couple at Tanner Springs Park in downtown Portland, Oregon. We had the perfect autumn evening to play in the Pearl and that’s just what we did. Their session included visit to Sammy’s Flower Shop, Cupcake Jones, Bonnet (a hat shop), just to name a few. After spending just an hour or so with Barrie and Doug, I could tell that they have fun together no matter where they go. It’s probably one the reasons that they’re getting married next summer! Barrie and Doug, thank you for the extremely fun evening. I wish you two continued happiness, laughter and good times.

Tiana and Philip’s Engagement Session in Washington Park
I can’t think of a better setting for engagement photos that are both romantic and playful than Washington Park in Portland, Oregon. When Tiana and Philip chose this location for their summer engagement session on August 7th, I knew we were going to have a lot of fun. We started their session in the International Rose Test Garden, which was still in full bloom and made a perfectly colorful backdrop. We then headed to the lower entrance of the Japanese Gardens and then off to the playground to finish their session on the swing set. Tiana’s parents and their puppy joined us that evening and I even had a chance to snap a few photos of these important family members:) I love engagement sessions! Tiana and Philip, thank you for the fun evening. Lincoln and I look forward to documenting your wedding on September 12th!

Danielle and Kevin’s Engagement Session Downtown and Around
Danielle and Kevin had a great idea for their engagement session – why not join them on a date? Since it’s always our objective to get photos of couples looking like their fabulous selves during their engagement session, I thought this would be a fantastic way to capture two people in love doing something they enjoy together. Plus, what a great way to get to know a really wonderful couple! We met Danielle and Kevin near their home in the South Waterfront and took the street car up to the park blocks for a few photos there. We then headed down to the Portland Art Museum for more photos, laughing and chatting. We even wandered downtown for a bit but our ultimate destination was the Ace Hotel, where Danielle and Kevin got engaged. We ended the evening joining this adorable couple for a drink at Clyde Common. It was such a fun night and a great photo session. Danielle and Kevin, we had a blast with you two! We’re looking forward to August 9th.

Liz and Eduardo’s Engagement Session at the Pittock Mansion
Another fun thing I like to learn about my clients is how they met. Everyone’s account is unique and it’s interesting to me to hear the circumstances that surround each couple’s love story. Liz and Eduardo’s story almost sounds like the beginning of a movie: they met during a salsa dancing class. How awesome is that? This beautiful couple is tying the knot on October 3rd of this year. For their engagement session, we choose one of my favorite locations in Portland, the Pittock Mansion. We lucked out on the weather as well as the landscaping at the Pittock Mansion being in full bloom. Plus, Liz and Eduardo we’re totally willing to run, jump, roll in the grass, etc. They even showed me some of their salsa dancing moves. Very impressive! Liz and Eduardo, thanks for the fun evening:) We’re looking forward to October 3rd!

Jessica and Cole’s Engagement Session at Multnomah Falls
It’s always fun hearing how my clients got engaged. Everyone has a different story and, most often, a unique engagement location. Jessica and Cole are getting married on September 19th of this year. They were engaged in November 2008 at the top of Multnomah Falls, one of the prettiest places in Oregon. When I met Jessica and Cole several months ago, they asked if I’d be willing to do their engagement photo session near the top of the falls, at the spot where Cole proposed to Jessica. Combining photography, nature, and hiking? It sounded like a perfect afternoon to me. And it was! Jessica and Cole, thank you for the fantastic location suggestion as well as for being lovely photo subjects. We’re looking forward to photographing your big day!

Jill and Alec’s Engagement Photo Session in Washington Park
After spending a beautiful Sunday afternoon with Jill and Alec at Washington Park, in Portland Oregon, it was evident that these two a) adore each other and b) love to laugh. They especially like to make each other laugh. As their photographer, I must say that their love of laughter made taking their engagement photographs very easy:) During our session, Jill mentioned how much she loves black and white photography, so I decided to post only black and white images on the blog, for a change. Normally my preference is for color photography, but I really love these images in black and white – good call Jill! Thank you both for the fun afternoon. We’re looking forward to photographing your wedding on August 22nd!

Alanna and Robby’s Engagement Portrait Session
Alanna and Robby are getting married on August 8th of this year and, on Mother’s Day, I had the opportunity to take their engagement portraits in the Pearl. One of the reasons that I enjoy engagement sessions so much is that it gives me a chance to get to know the couple before their wedding day. Alanna, Robby, Lincoln and I had such a good time together at their session, we ended up going out to dinner afterward! Thank you for the lovely evening, Alanna and Robby. Lincoln and I are looking forward to photographing your big day!

Anne and Alex’s Engagement Photos in the Pearl
In light of the rain that’s currently falling in Portland, I thought I would post some of my favorite photos from Anne and Alex’s warm, sunny, feel-good engagement portrait session! Sunshine, an adorable puppy, ice cream, and the lovely Anne and Alex all contributed to the fun afternoon we spent taking their engagement photos in the Pearl. Anne and Alex are getting married on July 11th of this year. Their beloved puppy, Delia, will most likely not be able to attend the wedding so they wanted to be sure to include her in some of their engagement photos. So cute! Anne and Alex, thank you for the wonderful afternoon. We’re looking forward to July 11th!

Kelly and Bryan in Downtown Portland, Oregon
Photographing Kelly and Bryan’s engagement portraits in Downtown Portland, Oregon was like taking a walking tour of their sweet love story. Kelly and Bryan met about 5 years ago Downtown, they had their first date Downtown, and they were engaged at the waterfront park in Downtown. Pretty awesome. So, it only seemed right that we do their engagement photos Downtown, where it all began. This super-cool couple is getting married in just about one month and Lincoln and I will have the pleasure of photographing their nuptials. Kelly and Bryan, we’re looking forward to May 16th!!

Rachel and Tim at Timberline Lodge, Oregon
When we initially met with Rachel and Tim to talk about photographing their wedding on April 18th, we started discussing how much we all loved skiing and snowboarding on Mt. Hood in the winter. As native Oregonians, Rachel and Tim have spent many winters up on the mountain, enjoying the snow and beautiful terrain. Therefore, when we started talking about locations for their engagement portraits, it only seemed natural that we do their session on Mt. Hood, where they’ve spent many years enjoying slopes. This past Sunday, we met Rachel and Tim at Timberline Lodge for their engagement portrait session. This was my first time shooting in the snow and I must say that it was SO much fun! Rachel and Tim, thanks for the wonderful Sunday afternoon – it truly was a pleasure. We can’t wait to photograph your wedding in April!
