I’m very excited to announce that one of my images has be awarded 2nd place in the Wedding Photojournalist Association 3rd quarter contest! The WPJA is a membership-based international organization of photographers who specialize in documenting weddings in an unobtrusive style. It’s an honor to be a part of the organization and to have been recognized by and among a group of very talented photographers.

Judges Comments: An odd, unexpected, apparent grab shot. Though the composition is not great, it is fascinating to look at what everyone is doing, including many oblivious to the kid being thrown in the air. I think it is very a very interesting photo, life doesn’t necessarily have composition all the time. I’m sure Cartier-Bresson had plenty of shots that didn’t have perfect composition, he just kept them hidden!

I know the judge thinks the composition is less than “perfect”, but I love where the child is positioned in the frame–just above center and in the middle of the sky. It still shows a lot of heavenly expanse for him to fly into! Awesome shot.
